AB Kidney  transplantation  offers  improved  survival  and  better  quality  of  life  for  patients  with  end-stage  renal  disease  (ESRD).  However,  this  is  dependent  on  a  successful  transplantation,  without  immediate  complications.  A  carefully  completed  pretransplant  recipient  evaluation  will  address  modifiable  risk  factors  (for  resolution)  and  nonmodifiable  risk  factors  (for  informed  consent  or  exclusion  of  candidates).  Factors  that  could  potentially  affect  both  immediate  perioperative  as  well  as  long-term  posttransplant  outcomes  should  be  thoroughly  addressed  in  order  to  optimize  the  benefits  of  kidney  transplantation  as  a  treatment  option.
