AB The  most  common  indication  for  creation  of  an  arteriovenous  fistula  is  renal  failure  requiring  chronic  hemodialysis.  It  is  preferable  to  create  a  native  fistula,  although  prosthetic  material  may  be  needed  if  a  suitable  vein  is  not  available.
