AB The  most  common  indication  is  for  the  administration  of  chemotherapy  or  long-term  parenteral  nutritional  support.  For  these  purposes,  a  port  is  usually  used.  For  short-term  therapies,  alternatives  include  a  tunneled  central  venous  catheter  or  a  peripherally  inserted  central  catheter  (PICC).
