We have written this book as a resource for surgeons who performed colorectal surgery and for trainees in colorectal and general surgery. The format of this book is such that the reader can quickly review a surgery right before performing it, we have knowingly kept the text relatively informal with an emphasis on practical tips and tricks to be used while performing an operation.
In many ways this book is meant to serve as a companion/guide for colorectal surgery faculty, fellows, and general surgery residents and should be used in conjunction with a formal textbook. The emphasis of the book is on the technical conduct of minimally invasive colorectal surgery including a brief introduction to robotic surgery. We have knowingly under played theoretical discussion of disease processes and pathology to highlight the preoperative preparation and intraoperative conduct of minimally invasive surgery. The key surgical steps have been illustrated with intraoperative pictures and diagrams for ease of comprehension and intraoperative reproduction of the illustrated techniques by the readers.
