The neck module contains two groups of regions:
++
++
The superficial regions include the anterior triangle (and its subdivisions), posterior triangle, and sternomastoid region. The deep regions include the root of the neck (including the thyroid gland) and the back of the neck (including the vertebral column). Cervical spine injuries make up the bulk of the images in the neck due to the serious consequences that may follow. Some miscellaneous images are grouped together for convenience (e.g., paravertebral abscess).

++
History of dive or fall onto head causing compression of C1; pain with varying neurological symptoms and signs.
++
Displacement of the left C1 lateral mass due to a vertical compression fracture (Jefferson or burst fracture; the atlas ring has 'burst').
++
Urgent operative reduction and fixation.
++
++
History of major neck injury in a car or diving accident or hanging incident. Symptoms and signs of marked cord compression.
++
Neural arch fracture at C2, allowing rotation of posterior fragment, C2/3 dislocation and anterior displacement of the peg.
++
Urgent operative reduction and fixation with cord decompression.
++
++
History of hyperextension injury due to hanging, car or diving accident; pain with varying neurological symptoms and signs.
++
Bilateral fracture of the C2 pedicles allowing anterior displacement of C2 on C3 (one form of 'Hangman's fracture').
++
Urgent operative reduction and fixation.
